VMware’s vCenter Log Insight

Log Insight

VMware

On June 11th of this year, VMware released its newest analytics product known as Log Insight. Log Insight is an integrated solution with vCenter Operations Manager. The packaged solution starts with VMware’s Operations Manager 5.7.1. This means that current vCenter Operations customers already have access to the new Log Insightfunctionality. The Log Insight feature innovatively allows you to glean further transparency into the health of your environment by producing analytics for log records.

According to Ramin Sayar, Vice President and General Manager of Cloud Infrastructure at VMware, “vCenter Log Insight extends our analytics-based approach to logs and unstructured machine-generated data. Together, these offerings provide a complete and integrated solution for cloud operations management.” This means that analytics for logs are now implemented alongside other performance bench marks. This translates into faster trouble shooting and shorter down time, being that problems and bottle necks can be more readily detected.

More specifically, “VMware vCenter™ Log Insight™ delivers automated log management through log analytics, aggregation, and search, extending VMware’s leadership in analytics to log data, (http://www.vmware.com/products/datacenter-virtualization/vcenter-log-insight/overview.html).” In summary, this means that the time it used to take to make sense of the log data that was generated from your network can disappear.
